12 Questions with Brooke Dabalos, Intuitive Healer

FEATURED HEALER
The Lady of Lightning, Brooke Dabalos, was drawn to healing from an early age. She grew up doing free readings for friends and family. With the encouragement of mentors who helped her accept and hone her intuitive gifts, she launched her practice in 2014, offering readings, reiki, and sound healing. Brooke has since grown into an all-encompassing intuitive reader, healer, and teacher living in New York City.
Brooke came onto our radar through a girlfriend of co-founder Natasha Wong Davis, who recommended Brooke's tarot card readings. If her name looks familiar, that's because she was part of our very first #betterfeels hour!
We are honored to share Brooke's gifts and to celebrate her triumphs - on October, 8th, Brooke is releasing a book and album titled "Something in the Sky: True Stories and Tools for Transformation." Her second book, it is meant to be an easy and practical companion for times of transition, grief and awakening. Check out her website for more details.
Without further ado, here's 12 questions with Brooke:
NAME:
Brooke Dabalos (aka The Lady of Lightning).
HOME BASE:
Brooklyn, NY.
HEALING SERVICES YOU OFFER:
Intuitive Readings, Intuitive Training, and Workshops.
DO YOU OFFER VIRTUAL SESSIONS:
Yes!
YOUR HEALING SERVICE IS FOR:
I work with clients of all ages and backgrounds who are traversing transitional moments in their lives.
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT AS A RESULT OF YOUR HEALING SERVICE:
The goal of my work is to provide a space for compassionate listening, as well as sharing spiritual/practical tools. My goal is to inspire clients to acknowledge their patterns, know their power to make change, and build a loving relationship with themselves. It feels like having a conversation with an old friend, who has deep access into your emotions, past life experiences, and sees your potential, even when you are not able to.
WHAT DREW YOU TO HEALING:
I grew up with a mother who encouraged my sisters and I to explore spiritual tools, astrology, numerology, and healing modalities. Through my personal studies, I experienced positive results, and shared these practices with friends and family members for years, including doing readings for them from early adolescence to adulthood. I was drawn to healing at a point in my life when I was very overwhelmed, steeped in fear, and sought comfort and healing in meditation. I was very fortunate to be surrounded by supportive mentors at the time, who shared invaluable knowledge and practices with me that changed my life, and helped me accept and hone my intuitive gifts. With their encouragement, I started my own business offering readings, reiki, and sound healing in 2014.
A HEALING RITUAL YOU SWEAR BY:
I swear by taking 3 cleansing breaths in through your nose, and out through your mouth to reset your energy, and be present with your emotions, even the challenging ones.
A HEALING RITUAL YOU ARE EXPLORING:
I continue to explore healing rituals and ancestral wisdom from my Polynesian heritage, much of which was lost from colonization and a lack of documented family history. Connecting with one’s heritage and native land spirits is extremely powerful work that is ongoing if one’s ancestral wisdom is not easily found or not passed down from family members. I have spent the last 3 years diving into these rituals, and still have so much to learn.
YOUR TYPICAL MORNING RITUAL, BEFORE NOON:
When I first wake up, I spend the first 15 minutes of the day not looking at my phone at all. I usually say affirmations or prayers aloud from the book “Change Me Prayers” by Tosha Silver. This starts my day with clear intention, and nurturing energy that brings peace to my inner child, and trains my brain to look for the miraculous and loving support of the divine in my day.
YOUR TYPICAL NIGHTTIME RITUAL:
Similarly to when I wake up, I like to end my night without my phone for at least 15 minutes, usually reading a passage from a book or listening to music. I also drink a glass of water and send loving intentions into it. This effects the contents of my dreams, and clarifies my hopes for how I want to feel when I wake up.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU:
I am inspired by the strength and equal tenderness of the human spirit, which continues to be made evident as I witness the struggles and triumphs of my clients. I love to hear the consistent themes of the human story, and how we are all connected by the incredible and intricate shades of human emotion and experience. The endless combinations of possibilities and circumstances for our existence and evolution are fascinating and inspiring all at the same time.
TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR BOOK:
In "Something in the Sky: True Stories and Tools for Transformation," I share my personal story, as well as practices that have helped me and my clients during times of change. The deepest intention I have for the book, is that it provides a similar effect to an individual reading, offering tools that are easy to approach when we need them the most. It is the first time I am combining all of the things I love into one project, art, music, healing, and words, and I can't wait to share it!
